Compare the five states with no statewide sales tax

Delaware, Oregon, New Hampshire, Montana and Alaska have no statewide general sales tax. The differences below explain why a “tax-free address” does not mean every transaction is exempt. The generator creates example addresses; it does not calculate taxes.

State tax differences and supported address examples

Tax-free address generator FAQs

Which states are tax-free?

Which US states have no statewide sales tax?

The five states without a statewide general sales tax are Delaware, Oregon, New Hampshire, Montana and Alaska. These are the five choices in this generator. Local taxes and taxes on particular products or services can still apply; see the state comparison above.

Does a tax-free state mean there are no taxes at all?

No. Here, tax-free state refers only to the absence of a statewide general sales tax. It says nothing about income, property or business taxes. Meals, lodging, rentals and other categories may have separate taxes.

Delaware vs Oregon: what is the sales tax difference?

Delaware has no state or local sales tax but taxes sellers through a separate gross receipts tax. Oregon has no general sales or use tax, with exceptions for particular categories such as qualifying vehicle purchases. A generated address does not model those business or product-specific rules.

Why is Alaska included if it has local sales taxes?

Alaska qualifies because it has no statewide sales tax. Its cities and boroughs can set their own sales taxes, and both may apply to one location. An Alaska state code alone cannot tell a checkout system the applicable local tax.

Does Montana charge sales tax in resort towns?

Some designated resort communities and areas charge a local resort tax on covered purchases. Examples include Big Sky, Whitefish and West Yellowstone. Montana also has separate lodging tax rules. These places are tax context; the current generator provides Helena address examples.

Why does New Hampshire tax meals and hotels if it has no sales tax?

Its general sales-tax policy and its Meals and Rooms (Rentals) Tax are separate. Taxable restaurant meals, accommodation and motor vehicle rentals are currently taxed at 8.5%. A Concord address therefore does not imply that every purchase has a zero tax rate.

State addresses and ZIP codes

Can I generate a Delaware address and ZIP code?

Yes. Select Delaware for the supported Wilmington, DE 19801 example. Generate a new name and street line, then copy the whole address or individual fields. City and ZIP remain paired with the selected location.

Can I generate an Oregon address with a Portland ZIP code?

Yes. Select Oregon, choose Portland and optionally narrow the ZIP code list. The generator uses supported Portland city–ZIP pairs; it does not cover every Oregon city or postal code.

How do I generate a New Hampshire address and ZIP code?

Choose New Hampshire in the state selector. The supported locality is Concord, NH 03301. Keep the leading zero when copying or exporting the ZIP code; store it as text in spreadsheets and databases.

Can I generate a Montana address with a ZIP code?

Yes. Choose Montana for a Helena, MT 59601 example. Names and street lines change when you generate again, while the supported city and ZIP stay matched. This selection does not expand to other Montana towns.

Can I generate an Alaska address and ZIP code?

Yes. Choose Alaska for the supported Anchorage, AK 99501 example. Use the result to exercise state, city and ZIP fields in a form. The tool does not calculate Anchorage or other municipal tax rates.

Is there a tax-free ZIP code that guarantees zero sales tax?

No. A ZIP code is a postal identifier, not a tax exemption. This tool supplies location examples rather than tax-jurisdiction boundaries or a rate lookup. Real tax treatment depends on the applicable location and transaction rules.

Online shopping and checkout testing

Are online purchases always tax-free in these five states?

No blanket rule applies to every transaction. General sales tax, local sales tax and special-category taxes are different. Oregon and Montana guidance notes that online travel purchases can still include hotel, rental-car or federal airline taxes. Use the actual transaction details when checking tax treatment.

Can I use a generated tax-free address for a real purchase?

Use generated addresses for test checkouts and mockups. They do not establish a real shipping destination, billing identity, residency or tax exemption. For a real order, enter the purchaser's actual billing and shipping details.

Which tax-free state should I choose for a checkout test?

Choose a state that matches the scenario you want to test. Delaware and Oregon exercise no-general-sales-tax cases; Alaska adds local-jurisdiction cases; Montana and New Hampshire add resort or product-category cases. Configure expected taxes separately in your test system: this generator only creates address fields.

Can I bulk generate tax-free state addresses in CSV or JSON?

Yes. Select one state or Any supported state, set the record count and generate a batch. Download CSV, JSON, SQL or text with up to 1,000 records. A larger batch varies generated fields across supported locations; it does not add new cities or ZIP codes.
